Description

This training equips educators with three evidence-based curricula to promote student mental health literacy, prevent opioid misuse, and address broader substance use prevention. Participants will learn how to deliver each program and integrate them into a cohesive strategy that supports students’ emotional well-being and safe decision-making.

  1. The Mental Health Literacy Curriculum Guide equips teachers with the knowledge and tools to confidently teach students (Grades 4-12) about mental health, reduce stigma, and promote help-seeking. In this train-the-trainer format, educators learn the six-module curriculum, practice delivery strategies, and leave prepared to integrate it directly into their classrooms.
  2. Making the Connection toolkit provides interactive modules that reveal the connection between ACEs, toxic stress, brain development, and youth substance use. This presentation will focus upon two new modules recently added to the toolkit designed to be youth peer-to-peer presentations which educate about the harms vaping and commercial tobacco.
  3. Friends for Life is an OSPI-recommended instructional tool for middle and high school educators to teach teenagers about the risks and harms of opioids, including illicit fentanyl, and the lifesaving power of naloxone to reverse opioid overdoses.
