Description

Does climate change increase wildfires OR do wildfires increase climate change?  Come learn about NASA's work in this area and how it can apply to your science or CTE course. Gather ideas on how to build students' understanding of positive feedback loops and negative feedback in complex natural systems.  Participants will examine NASA's work around climate and fire through the lens of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Crosscutting Concepts of "Cause and Effect" and "Stability and Change in Systems."  Participants will also have an opportunity to apply new learning about feedback loops to the NGSS Performance Expectations (PEs) relevant to their classes.  This workshop will be geared towards Grades 6-12 teachers.  Dinner will be provided and 3 STEM Clock Hours are available.
