Description
In this training, participants will gain insight, tools, and resources for implementing McKinney-Vento guidelines in their schools to better support students and families experiencing homelessness. We will look at key provisions in the McKinney-Vento Act and provide crucial information needed to uphold the Act and use best practices.
The McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures immediate enrollment and educational stability for homeless children and youth. McKinney-Vento provides federal funding to states for the purpose of supporting district programs that serve homeless students.
Washington receives funding each year from the U.S. Department of Education and the Washington State Legislature to support the education of homeless students in school programs. Funding is distributed to LEAs through a competitive grant process.
