Description

Join us in learning from national authors, scholars and educators as we examine how the unique assets of multilingual learners and their changing literacy and language skills intersect with the Science of Reading and foundational biliteracy skills. Featured speakers, Natalie Wexler, an educational journalist and author of The Knowledge Gap,  and Dr. Sera J. Hernández, Department Chair and Associate Professor of Dual Language and English Learner Education at San Diego State University, will provide guidance on instructional equity, cultivating student agency, ensuring accessibility to grade-level content, and  developing critical writing skills. In addition to learning from our featured speakers each morning, the symposium will also provide break-out sessions related to integrating literacy and content,  implementation of Preschool GLAD® and Project ® strategies, and planning and monitoring with the WIDA ELS framework. A variety of local educators and national trainers will create an intensive two days of learning about how to best support our diverse Multilingual learners. Registration fees include lunch for both days and a copy of Natalie's book, The Knowledge Gap.
