Description

During this teacher professional development opportunity, EarthGen will articulate opportunities for culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) in curriculum and instruction and familiarize early elementary teachers on how to leverage our newly redesigned Kindergarten curriculum with their students.

To begin, teachers will explore the six main principles of CRP, which include cultural competence, critical consciousness, inclusive curriculum, culturally responsive teaching practices, student-centered approach, and family and community engagement with a focus on migrant, multilingual, and Native students in Washington state. They will receive examples of each principle in curriculum and instruction and resources to learn more about them. Teachers will be guided through the lessons from Monarch Mystery and given the opportunity to fully unpack lessons in each chapter to better understand the standards (e.g., NGSS, WIDA) that drive the unit, identify opportunities for CRP, and ensure they feel prepared to fully implement the unit back in their classrooms.

Teachers will receive a $250 stipend when they fully implement the unit in their classroom, upload 1-2 student artifacts, and complete a short online evaluation.

Teachers will also receive 1 STEM clock hour and 1 Equity clock hour.
