Inclusionary Practices PLC - Cohort 2
Universal Design for Learning: Moving from Theory to Practice
Presenters
- Kathleen Lenihan
Description
The facilitator will lead an ongoing professional learning community to support the development of systems and structures to strengthen school-wide inclusionary practices. These professional learning opportunities will support educators in developing a common language and vision for identifying and removing barriers while supporting the utilization of the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Participants will have the opportunity to work with job alikes, grade-level partners, or building/district educators.
Participants will explore UDL lesson design with tools, scaffolds, and exemplars to start building universally designed lesson plans and units that honor student variability and break down barriers to learning. We will explore how to expand student engagement by being clear about our goals and standards, designing accessible learning materials and methods, and finally, assessing learner progress in authentic and meaningful ways.
In this Theory to Application Series participants will access materials from an 8-module asynchronous Canvas course with live PLC discussions with their region’s Inclusionary Practices Coordinator. This course utilizes Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as an approach to inclusive education and a framework for instructional design. Together with the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), educators will focus on how to develop a culture of equity and inclusionary practices within their classrooms and school.
