Description
District teams interested in exploring and implementing modified school-year calendars are invited to join colleagues from across the state for this packed 2-hour learning and networking event. The two-hour event will include:
Shared learning and networking time with national experts from the National Association for Year Round Education, state/regional experts, and school district leaders.
Breakout learning sessions will include:
o Braided funding models (Jason Miller, OSPI Executive Director, Grants/Fiscal)
o Working with communities and special interest groups (Rich Staley, Superintendent, Oakville School District)
o Student voice in developing a balanced calendar (Marcello Sgambelluri, Assoc. Director of Systems Design, ESD 105)
o Intersession materials and strategies (Mike Closner, Executive Director, Teaching & Learning, ESD 105)
o Balanced calendar research and Washington case studies (Jim Pederson, Author, Summer vs. School: The Possibilities of the Year-Round School)
o Balanced calendar “101” (David Hornak, Executive Director, National Assoc. for Year-Round Education; and Superintendent, Hold Public Schools)
o Data and the balanced calendar (Erich Bolz, Center for Educational Effectiveness)
