Presenters

Description

The Research and Theory training provides an overview of the history of Project GLAD and a summary of current and classic research upon which the GLADĀ® instructional model was developed. Connections to current priorities such as the Science of Reading, ensuring equity of access to high quality educational opportunities, and the WIDA ELD Framework are all included within this updated version of the Research and Theory training. In addition to addressing current topics, we will also explore research findings on the interconnections between cultural identity, language acquisition, literacy development, and cognitive development. Teachers will gain clarity about intentionally applying strategies to increase students' comprehension of any content area and enhance access to any core materials. Training will also include resources for backwards planning, unit planning and a sequential walk through of strategies from the launch of a unit to the closure and evaluation. Other topics will include promoting cross-cultural proficiency and aligning instruction with WIDA Framework and the Key Language Uses.
