Description
This is an asynchronous course that is part of the AESD Inclusionary Practices Project (IPP). It is one of 12 modules that will be offered as a part of this project. You are welcome to take this course asynchronously, however, there will also be synchronous courses available if that is better for your learning preference. This course meets the criteria for Equity clock hour requirements for certificate renewal for certificated staff as well as Educational Leadership clock hours. OSPI has a specific focus on racial equity and family engagement which this course will address and how it relates to the course content.
In this course, Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL), participants will develop an understanding of the UDL framework, principles, and guidelines. In addition, participants will learn about three networks of the brain, how they are connected to learning, and how they provide the basis for the UDL framework. We will explore the role of the brain in the “Why, What, and How” of learning, and how UDL practices can support all learners. Participants will take a deep dive into the UDL guidelines to gain a deeper understanding of what UDL strategies look like in practice, and how they support students in becoming expert learners.
