Description

Come and learn how to grow native plants with your students! Visit a local native

plant nursery and see tangible examples of how you can start very small and then

build on your successes and lessons learned over time. Learn how to use potting

media ingredients that support ecological health instead of detracting from it. Gain

perspective on selecting plant species that support climate resilience and culturally

significant plants.

In this training you will…

Become familiar with the new Guidebook to Starting a School Native Plant Nursery

Learn what a micro-nursery is and how to start your own 

Experience hands-on activities that will prepare you for leading learning in your

classroom, practicing techniques that can be used at school to:

mix potting media set up automatic irrigation to reduce the work involved in growing plants

start native plant seeds

Learn how to protect container-grown native plants from the elements, including

cold weather, neighboring weeds, and heat waves
