Participants will learn: ~the definition of stress and recognize how we respond in a stressful situation. ~the stress cycle and that stress can elicit an Optimal Performance Range of responses and factors that can prevent the OPR from being maintained. ~strategies to manage stress and help find an OPR ~an overview of the de-escalation process ~intervention strategies for applying the de-escalation process ~basic intervention strategies to use during an escalation ~basic intervention strategies to use in the environment ~how to analyze incidents to better manage them in the future ~basic movements, avoidance, repelling, and protection safety techniques ~strategies to release from different types of assault and minimize injury ~the five components of proactive environments and how they can aid in prevention ~general types of trauma and the cycle trauma can create. ~how to assess and understand the functions of behavior and the principles of changing behavior ~the internal and external motivators of an escalation and the corresponding responses for each ~why a person needs restabilization ~principles for helping a person learn from the situation to help prevent future occurrences ~analyze incidents in order to better manage them in the future ~why ethical considerations must be made with the use of therapeutic physical intervention ~to maintain safety by using the appropriate level of therapeutic physical intervention ~to recognize and avoid compromised safety ~restabilization and release techniques and apply them to physical intervention
