Description

The course is suitable for school staff such as nurses, behavior analysts, orientation & mobility specialists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, counselors, psychologists, and speech language pathologists or audiologists who wish to work in a school setting in Washington state. Additionally, they must be able to commit time to complete the requirements of the course.  This is an online course, so you will need to have continuous, reliable access to the internet and be proficient in utilizing online applications and technology. While you are not required to be at your computer at a specific time, the course will be broken into 4 modules that must be completed within the given deadlines. Each week, you will be required to participate in assigned readings, a written reflection assignment, a quiz, and discussion board posts and responses. 

The course outcomes will include an understanding of school and special education law.  Participants will learn and demonstrate knowledge focused on the following course areas: understanding state and federal laws, school culture, the provision of services to students, knowledge of school-based intervention programs for students, team building and collaboration, awareness of state standards in the respective related service occupational field, and awareness of the respective regulations within the public education setting. These core areas help prepare professionals for public school service.

CANCELLATION: A full refund of the registration fee, less the $10 administrative fee, is available if your cancellation is received 5 days prior to the first day of class. Full refunds will be issued if the course is canceled by NEWESD 101. The book is non-returnable after the access code is used. The registration fee is non-refundable after April 9, 2025. Credit card refunds will be issued from the Business Office and may take up to 30 days to process. 

 CLOCK HOURS: A maximum of 20.00 clock hours, for a fee of $60.00, will be available upon completion of the class. After successful completion of the course, you will be prompted to complete an evaluation of it through pdEnroller once clock hours have been submitted by NEWESD 101. Clock hours may take up to four weeks to be processed following the course completion. 

EQUITY HOURS: Will be available following the completion of the course.
