Description
Experience how local tribes, farms, and non-profits are providing climate solutions in Whatcom County that can inspire hope and resilience in the classroom! This field-based course focuses on solutions that support equity and justice that are currently being implemented in Whatcom County. Teaching for the Climate Collaborative will guide participants through classroom-ready STEM activities that illustrate how climate change is affecting different stakeholders and ecosystems. Community members will share their expertise in developing solutions. Participants, while together, will co-design bringing engineering design solutions into the classroom.
Event Notes
This workshop is designed to answer the following questions:
- What are the climate change effects on land and forestry?
- What are community members, tribes, CBOs, etc. doing to mitigate these effects in Whatcom County?
- What are the Indigenous Ways, currently and since time immemorial, of engineering to solve these issues?
- How do you bring Engineering Design solutions into your classroom based on what you learned today?
You will be sent a survey before the course to confirm your registration, gather some additional information, and secure a spot.
4 Clock Hours: Paid for by NWESD through the ClimeTime proviso from Washington State Legislature.
(3 STEM clock hours, 1 Equity hour)
Stipend: $100 and materials
Transportation is provided outside of course time.
