Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship 101 for Secondary Educators
Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship 101 for Secondary Educators
Presenters
- Lesley James
Description
These free Zoom sessions are open to anyone who feels brand new to teaching Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship and who works with students in grades 6 through 12, including teachers, teacher-librarians, specialists, and folks who support these educators.
Tuesday, August 13, 10–11:30 am: Lesley James from OSPI will help you answer the following questions: What exactly do “Media Literacy” and “Digital Citizenship” mean? And what are some ways in which they show up in the different subject areas in middle school and high school?
Tuesday, August 13, 1–2:30 pm: Lesley will share the “greatest hits” of the Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship instructional resources that are available for free. You’ll have time to explore and then consider which will be most relevant for your students.
It’s OK if you’re only able to attend the morning or the afternoon session. However, it will not be possible to earn clock hours for watching recordings if you’re unable to attend a live session.
The sessions will involve active engagement, either talking with people in small breakout rooms or sharing with the whole group via Chat. Think of it as an opportunity to rev up your brain after being in summer mode :) The sessions will work best if you’re able to access websites as well as Zoom, i.e., your experience will be limited if you’re on a phone.
Zoom link details will be provided after registration.
