Adding Media Literacy Flavor for Secondary Educators
Presenters
- Lesley James
Description
These free Zoom sessions are open to anyone who wants to extend what they’re already doing with Media Literacy and who works with students in grades 6 through 12, including teachers, teacher-librarians, specialists, and folks who support these educators. Lesley James from OSPI will present about a different topic during each session and then provide an opportunity to reflect on and discuss which ideas might be most relevant for your students.
Wednesday, August 14, 10–11:30 am: If you can only do one Media Literacy thing: Check the information sources students are finding for research projects
Wednesday, August 14, 1–2:30 pm: Questions, habits, and routines to have in your toolbox: Weaving Media Literacy into what you’re already doing
Thursday, August 15, 10–11:30 am: Gettings students on board with Media Literacy: Activating self-reflection and metacognition
Thursday, August 15, 1–2:30 pm: A few more tools for your toolbox and I guess we’d better talk about AI
These sessions are offered in a “Choose Your Own Adventure” format. Attend whichever sessions you’re able to. No need to attend all of them. Earn clock hours for what you do attend. Note that it will not be possible to earn clock hours for watching recordings if you’re unable to attend a live session.
The sessions will involve active engagement, either talking with people in small breakout rooms or sharing with the whole group via Chat. Think of it as an opportunity to rev up your brain after being in summer mode :)
Zoom link details will be provided after registration.
