This course is only open to K-12 Washington educators currently employed by a Washington school district. Private school educators whose school has opted into Federal Title III services may also take this course. Contact your school administrator for details.

Audience: This workshop is designed for educators who teach, or collaborate with teachers of multilingual children, in PreK-3 classrooms and programs. 

Description: Let’s Play! is an invitation to learn about joyful learning with multilingual children and their PreK-3 educators. During this self-paced virtual workshop, participants will explore what play for multilingual children is, why it is ideal for multilingual children’s language development and learning, and how to implement more joyful learning. Participants will have opportunities to observe multilingual children playing, hear from other educators how they integrate play into their teaching practices, and examine local factors that impact play for multilingual children.

By engaging in this workshop, participants will be able to: 

• Reflect on play and identify characteristics of joyful learning 

• Observe, note, and discuss the benefits of play for multilingual children in PreK-3  

• Identify opportunities to try out play for multilingual children in their local context  

• Identify and discuss local factors that impact play for multilingual children in PreK-3

 Access course:

Washington State public school educators and approved private school educators access the WIDA Self- Paced Workshops via the WIDA Secure Portal.

 If you do not have a WIDA Secure Portal account, follow the steps below:

1. Use your district email address and email WIDA Client Services Center at help@wida.us and request a WIDA Secure Portal account.
2. WIDA will send you an access link within 24 hours. Set up your login username and password.
3. Access the WIDA Secure Portal.
4. Select the “Professional Learning” path.
5. Scroll to the Self-Paced Workshop tile and click on the course link 
6. Select the course and begin.

Get clock hours:

1. To receive clock hours, participants must fulfil the time requirements of the course.  60 minutes of "active participation" equals one clock hour. 
2. Clock hours will not be awarded for less than 60 minutes of time spent actively participating in the course as per WAC 181-85-030. No exceptions will be made.
3. Upon course completion, fill out the course survey in pdEnroller: Login to your pdEnroller account, go to your Events, click on this event, then go to the Clock Hour Checklist and take the survey. 
4. OSPI will download course completion reports from the WIDA Secure Portal to verify course completion and time spent actively participating in the course.    
5. Clock hours will be approved quarterly.  Pay attention to when you complete the course.  No exceptions will be made. 

Note:  WIDA Certificates of Completion are not accepted for attendance verification or clock hours.  The hours on the certificate are a general estimation by WIDA and do not accurately reflect that time spent in course.
