This presentation focuses on two ways to “add Media Literacy flavor” to existing middle school and high school Social Studies classroom activities. As students are reading or writing about Social Studies content, they can also be applying their understanding of Media Literacy-related concepts. This will build students’ capacity to fact-check information and to investigate the credibility of information sources. Teachers can monitor how effectively students are investigating credibility by checking the sources they’re finding for research projects. This can allow teachers to provide targeted Media Literacy instruction where it’s most needed.
