Book Study - Equity (with Poverty)
Book Study - Equity (with Poverty)
Description
Green Park is a pretty unique community, with a wide variety of languages as well as socioeconomic backgrounds. Many factors impact our families and our school community, but one that routinely rises to the surface is poverty. Deep, systemic, difficult poverty. As teachers, we do so much, but the goal for this book study is to dive specifically into the factors affecting poverty, to see not only which ones we can assist with (by linking CIS and other resources as a part of our school day), but also how we can be more effective in helping our students succeed, both socially and academically. Poverty doesn't mean lack of intelligence, so what can we bring in or focus on or enrich our classrooms with, to better support the "can dos" of our students and lift up the Green Park community.
